TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE
BASED IN LIVERPOOL
SIZE OF COLLEGE: 1,200 Pupils
NUMBER OF SITES: Nine
LENGTH OF PROJECT: 2002-Present
CLIENT’S REQUIREMENTS
The college was a leading partner in a local school cluster group and was looking to forge closer data links with members of the cluster group for sharing Internet services and digital content.
ISSUES RAISED
It was important that the cluster group of schools had total control and ownership of this facility. As line of site was not available between the sites, the use of relay sites was necessary.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
Rapid Technolgies provided a Broadband Wireless Radio Network. The solution was simplified because the schools in the cluster group were relatively close to one another and were able to solicit the support of local bodies ie. Schools, Churches and Housing Associations in order to achieve connectivity.
The installation of a Broadband Wireless Radio Network facilitates a Web-based Virtual Learning Resource for teachers and students. It also delivers a shared Broadband facility which is managed by the Technology College.
The cluster group currently leases the technology in order to limit the amount of initial capital expenditure with an option to own the links at the termination of the lease.
The cluster group have been successful in accessing a grant supplied by the National College for School Leadership.
