CLIENT'S REQUIREMENTS
Rapid Technologies were requested to:
- remove the Science College's old workstations and supply and install new workstations for the pupils.
- install the existing workstations for staff members.
- supply and install new servers to replace the Science College's outdated server equipment.
- supply and install a modern high capacity switch infrastructure.
- supply and install 15 Interactive Whiteboards across the campus.
- replace the Science College's insecure Unmanaged Wireless equipment with a secure Managed Wireless Network.
- remove and dispose of the Science College's redundant electronic hardware in accordance with the EC Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment: www.dti.gov.uk/sustainability/weee
remove and dispose of the waste packaging for the Science College.
ISSUES RAISED
The Science College required a quick and efficient deployment and configuration of the new Network without a compromise in the quality of the installation in order to avoid interference with the start of the school term.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
Rapid Technologies:
- removed and disposed of the Science College's redundant electronic hardware in accordance with the EC Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment: http://www.dti.gov.uk/sustainability/weee
- removed and disposed of the waste packaging for the Science College.
- supplied and installed 180 Fujitsu Siemens Scenic E Workstations for the pupils.
- installed the Science College's existing HP Workstations for the staff.
- supplied and installed 7 Acer Servers.
- supplied and installed 7 network printers.
- carried out a switch infrastructure up-grade to replace the Science College's existing switches with a 3Com managed switch solution comprising 4950 core and 4400 edge switches.
- supplied and installed 15 SMART Interactive Whiteboards with Epson Data Projectors.
- provided the teaching staff with comprehensive training on SMART Board software for use on SMART's Interactive Whiteboards.
- supplied 10 days' on-site specialist network engineering expertise.
- supplied a Managed Service Contract for the network.
- supplied and installed a 3Com Managed Wireless Network solution to replace the Science College's existing wireless equipment, using 3Com's WX1200 Managed Wireless Switches and AP2750 Access Points.
