SMART Technologies have launched a new SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard system that now includes a built in appliance. Basically a cut down pc built into the board. This is a great step forward in many ways, it negates the need to use a PC or SMART Hub (PC) to drive the interactive whiteboard. This cuts down support and maintenance from the IT department and means companies who are looking at thin client deployment again and cloud services can have an interactive one button on collaborative experience without the usual support issues encountered with the traditional set-up.

The SMART appliance-based system also brings with it a level of built in security with it and previous sessions can't be stored locally providing extra protection against leaving confidential information on PC's. Installation also becomes much easier. Most importantly I think it is an easier and nicer experience for a user who is able to get going quickly without worrying about how the PC, board and other technologies may have been set-up. You can launch the board, the whiteboarding software, an internet browser open a .pdf and email sessions just as before. If you need to connect your laptop or a guests laptop, you can connect it via a SMART GoWire™ auto-launch cable. This is another great step in the drive for productivity and I can see this appliance based interactive whiteboard system with its simplicity being extremely popular for businesses of all shapes and sizes.
