Multicasting
Multicasting provides an efficient way for one host to simultaneously deliver/transmit text, audio and video via satellite to a select group of people in specific locations. Broadcasts can be delivered via dedicated channels directly to personal computers, or regular TVs equipped with set-top boxes.
Multicasting is a one-to-many transmission, in contrast to the traditional method of sending messages on the Internet, called unicasting, which is a one-to-one transmission. At present, satellite networks are the most cost effective method of delivering a large amount of digital information to multiple sites.
