Helping You Prepare For Martyn's Law

In 2025, the UK Government officially passed The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act, also known as Martyn’s Law. This legislation introduces new legal responsibilities for those in charge of publicly accessible locations — including schools, universities, libraries, community centres, shopping areas and more.

At Rapid Technologies, we are here to help you navigate these new responsibilities. We’re offering a free, no-obligation site survey to help you assess your current setup and understand what actions may be needed to support compliance and public safety.

Tailoring Critical Incident Responses in Schools and Colleges

In an educational setting such as a school or college, critical incidents can occur in a variety of locations, outside the campus perimeter, within the school grounds, or inside the building itself. Each scenario may require a different response strategy to ensure the safety of students and staff.

For incidents occurring outside the school buildings, a Lockdown may be the most appropriate action, instructing everyone to remain in place for their safety. Conversely, if the threat originates inside the building, a full or partial Evacuation might be necessary. In some situations, it may be safest to relocate individuals to a different, secure area within the building, a procedure known as Invacuation.

Understanding and planning for these distinct emergency protocols, Lockdown, Evacuation and Invacuation, is vital for developing an effective critical incident response plan that aligns with Martyn’s Law and fulfils your safeguarding responsibilities.
